Oh Fall How I Love Thee! Nice Music, a 1949 Movie Rec, a Few Photos and Little Thoughts

So neat...

And how can we forget Nat King Cole this time of year?

In my prayer time I feel impressed to lay my head even more and more on the Father's chest...Just like a little girl laying her head on her father's loving chest...Trusting and telling the Father my concerns.

Love this song, a wonderful reminder, oh, just so beautiful and truthful too.

Prayer is a powerful thing, we can talk with Him and walk with Him...and He listens.  He is also moved by our Faith.  When our children talk to us?  Don't we listen?

Seen any good movies?   We saw one that is definitely a keeper!    It's called  Red Light (1949)
I wasn't sure if I would like it by the name, but this one is inspiring, wowee.  The end is really something.   It's about a mobster with a missionary brother and a secret in a Bible.   The movie poster on this doesn't represent the movie. Some of  the music is so beautiful...Very period, just so nice, reminded me a bit of the old movie, Boys Town in that particular way.

Here's a few photos, I have more but around here, out here away from it all it is shared internet with the other country neighbors so bandwidth can be hard to come by on certain days and it takes forever to load up my photos from my phone etc.

A recent evening walk:

The other evening...

A partial glimpse of  my lineup of seedlings getting started for my fall garden, I'm planting a variety of winter squash and greens, just a nice variety of wonderful vegetables along with marigolds to attract bees for pollination:

.

One of our five kitties, his name?   Why it's Monkey!  Our daughter Annette had brought him home one dark night as a kitten, he had tromped through puddles through the forest to reach her car as she stopped, seeing him near our home, so sweet. It's as if he knew exactly his ride was there!  He has beautiful light green eyes and loves pets.

...

A sweet reminder, just love sweet little scarecrows!

.

The other morning, I saw the light landing on my 'Faith' sign behind my couch...I took the trouble to go fetch my phone to get this shot...It reminded me of my Grandma and Grandpa Oddo's home when I was a little girl there on the bay...The way the morning light would come in...

.

I'll close now, I need to get supper going, I already have some potatoes in the oven I make with chopped tomatoes, lemon juice, garlic powder a little olive or avocado oil and all that jazz.

We'll have my special red beans and rice too with hints of mustard greens, and one of my favorites, Tofurky.  If you're a veggie gal like me, Tofurky is gold, it flavors things wonderfully and is plantbased.  How do I make my red bean soup?   I follow the recipe for the mostpart from the Camellia  brand bean bag subbing Tofurky fro meat and adding some sauteed bell peppers too.  Edit 9.18:  I also sautee a can of diced tomatoes with the onions, peppers and tofurkey.  Sometimes I throw into a vegan bouillon cube in the broth later.

I'll be making some Jiffy cornbread too, that's a nice comfort food....

I usually serve a big green salad as well with my Creole soup.    Camellia bean company is in New Orleans, I have New Orleans in my blood.

My Italian grandma was from New Orleans, her Italian family from Naples, Italy owned an ice cream cone and ice cream business on the main street across from Jax brewery.  The business is still there but owned by someone else.  My great grandpa spoke little English being from Naples, Italy. He had invented his own ice cream cone and it was stolen by a large ice cream cone company from the same area.  So many Italians were not treated properly back then but they worked hard and pulled themselves up.  My great grandparents moved to Texas as my grandma's brothers were getting older and my grandfather was afraid they would get into  bad company, I'm so thankful to my great grandfather for that courageous move.

But I do love New Orleans, the mighty Mississippi river is my favorite spot there watching the river boats, jazz musicians playing on the corners, it's so nice and the great cathedral.  Many people think of bad things when they think of New Orleans but you can easily go there and stay away from bad things just like any other city, we don't even drink and we are fine there, you just have to know what to stay away from.  If you like history it's a neat and unique place. My grandma kept her New Orleans accent and loved to cook, nothing like it. I think of my grandma often when I'm in the kitchen doing what I call...Composing dinner.

Do you know the famous actress, Irene Dunne was the daughter of a riverboat inspector?  She said the greatest time in her life was as a teenager riding with her father on those riverboats.   My father went to Gulfport Military Academy in Biloxi Mississippi right down the way, oh the stories of the dances they would attend at the local girls academy.  I have my uncle's dress gloves from the academy.

Well, looks like I typed up a  bunny trail above...

Have a good evening, loves,

All who humble themselves before the Lord shall be given every blessing and shall have wonderful peace.    Psalm 37:11

Barbara Johnson's words are so true. We can offer comfort and relief, but it is between individual people and God to solve the problems.

Lovely post, Amelia. I look forward to listening to the music soon while I am sitting at my stitching desk. And the movie. I'd love to see that.

Thank you for another uplifting post.

Wonderful quotes at the end!

Did you find the movie Red Light to stream or did you have to get the dvd?

(I found the movie on You Tube of all places!)

Ah, so much to say...first of all, I love hearing your family stories! Your Italian grandparents sound a lot like my mother-in-law's parents who emigrated from Sicily in the early 1900's. My husband would love if he came from an ice-cream-making heritage---ice cream has to be his favorite food on the planet! How cool that your ancestors did just that (make ice cream).

I love your little scarecrow flag. He's such a cutie. I love those little garden-size flags. Also, love those pretty blue pillows with the birds. Such a beautiful color.

The music of Nat King Cole is wonderful. Such a velvet voice he had!

Oh, yeah, Red Light....George Raft! Really good movie. I recently watched him in Invisible Stripes.

Our country is in a very precarious place right now. We all need to be pouring out our hearts to him on behalf of our nation.

Love and hugs,
Patti

Thank you Barbara, there is so much to be thankful for, His beauty, He is everywhere. It's true, we many times are the answer God sends to people to lift them up. Many people ask where is God? God asks, Where are my people?

I appreciate you! Blessings!

Hi Sandi! So glad you found the movie! We saw it on regular antenna television on the "Movies!" channel: https://moviestvnetwork.com/schedule/. We cut the cable and this station is very much like Turner Classics. We dvr our 40s movies with a Channel Master. Also if you find a movie on youtube you can play them on your tv with that device. Hope you enjoyed the movie!

Hi Patti! I too love the voice of Nat King Cole, I have the cd, "Love is the Thing and More" It's my all time favorite! I never tire of it.

I just loved it that you immediately knew the stars in the movie! Haha, yes! I'll have to check into Invisible Stripes.

Irene Dunne...Just love her. Penny Serenade, another movie I never tire of...It reminds me of how things were when we were little ones...Just the sweetest movie ever...*happy sigh*. Beula Bondi and Cary Grant...Oh, so sweet. There is a story of Irene Dunne at a church, a lady turns around and tells her, "Oh isn't this exciting? Just look at all the stars!" I'm sure Irene Dunne was amused. I was reading Irene Dunne never pushed doors open in her career, she never forced and didn't believe in forcing things, things would have to open naturally for her to take a part. Very neat lady and a lady in the true sense too.

Yes, I've been leaning in to the Lord ever so much and that's always a good thing, but yes, our country needs prayers badly, badly. I'm seeing things that are just blowing my mind they are so evil. Things are so crazy they tend to cloud over the abortion issue. I think of the scourge of abortion, you have candidates who think that is okay minutes before or after the birth, and of course anytime it's taking a life cruelly. You have people who don't see the good in our President who has done so much for the prolife community and Israel among other things. It's a spiritual dullness I do believe in many. Do they realize what is at stake here? Do they care?

Thanks for your encouragement and comments above Patti, Love and hugs!

Hi Linda, I hope you are doing well. Tofurkey? Oh it's wonderful stuff, I buy it in the produce department. It's an Italian plant based sausage and it is delicious! I also cook it with pasta gravy and it's wonderful.

Yes, there were so many injustices back then many times because the Italian immigrants did not speak good English. Neither my inlaws nor my mother are able to speak much Italian because their Italian immigrant parents wanted them to assimilate and did not encourage their children to speak much Italian at home. My Grandpa Oddo became an American citizen and it was a wonderful proud day in his life! They were proud to become Americans! He was one of the sweetest things ever, he was a quiet, precious man, many times embarrassed because he couldn't speak what he thought to be good English, he sang like Caruso.

I appreciate you coming by and your encouragement, God bless you Linda!

I finally watched Red Light. Thank you for mentioning it here. It is amazing to me that they made a movie with a bible and righteousness and...well, it was a nice surprise to see light coming from Hollywood. My how things have changed.

Hi Sandi, yes, wasn't that movie a surprise? You may also enjoy "Made for Each Other" (1939) That one has some very neat parts in the last half that has a very touching part on prayer, Carole Lombard praying in a hospital chapel and even a poignant part of Carole Lombard speaking with her elderly mother in law...I'll have to post on that one. I think it may be on youtube.

I'm sure you've seen 'It's a Wonderful Life', the part where Jimmy Stewart prays at the bar crying? He really was crying. Frank Capra, the producer had to zoom in doing the best he could since he didn't intend on zooming. There is actually a Christian tract written on this scene and what Jimmy Stewart was experiencing. It is really something.
