Have the Courage to Suffer the Contempt of the World

loading ...

"God assumed from the beginning that the wise of this world would view Christians as fools...and He has not been disappointed...If I have brought any message today, it is this:  Have the courage to have your wisdom regarded as stupidity.  Be fools for Christ.  And have the courage to suffer the contempt of the sophisticated world."

~Antonin Scalia

Dear Readers,

This quote is so profound, and I would like to add that it is not only the sophisticated world that scoffs, it can also be carnal church goers as well.

Be careful of whose parade you attend so to speak...

If someone is okay with an organization that is pro-death, the murder of precious unborn babies?  Then I would question the integrity of not only that organization, but also, the integrity of the faith of that person and those who blindly support that person.

Be careful of whose parade you are attending.

We are in a pivotal time in this country.  Please teach your children and youth the importance of this time in our country!

There are men such as Ted Cruz who to our family, seems to be very much in line with the teachings of Christ.  It's interesting he is not receiving much press.

I reiterate the quote above.

...And when it comes to our precious, innocent, unborn, I will always speak out.

loading ...  Just this week, just two examples of many lately, of reports I receive from my daughters.

-Our oldest daughter was dismayed this past Sunday as most singles there are not paying attention to what is happening in this nation and not realizing the importance of this time!  They lamely muttered that they usually just wait and pull the straight Republican lever. She was horrified at their passivity on the primaries and the importance of Justice Scalia's passing!  This church is probably one of the better ones.  Frightening.

-One of our daughters went to dinner with a handsome young man she met at a (protestant conservative denomination) church who has studied law, who also teaches at a Christian school.  He told my daughter he will turn her into a democrat yet.  Her response of course was simply No.   That platform comes against everything we believe in as Christians.

This young man (a sanders supporter) had no explanation except choice of the mother when confronted by our daughter on the abortion issue alone.   Shouldn't the baby have a choice?

Note: Neither churches above have ever been mentioned on this blog, my goal is not to mar a reputation but to make the point of the state of most churches.

Be careful of whose populist parade you attend.

Even a child is known by their doings...

Amelia, this is spot on. We cannot afford, as Christians to be silent any longer...

Thank you Amanda, you are so very correct. It's time to speak out!

I was challenged by Scalia's quote as well because as I sit in Republican meetings where it is generally well received to say, "I'm a follower of Jesus Christ" (sometimes it is even a way to earn votes), I wonder if we all would have the same courage in a more hostile environment to be quite so bold, quite so willing to look the fool in the eyes of those who would liken it to believing in a Fairy Godmother. Scalia did that in the hard places and for the right causes, and I pray that I would have the courage to be like that too... Even better, he did it with intellectual integrity and facts to back up his positions, rather than a slogan-based "rah-rah" conservationism that I see from some Republicans.

Life must always be stood for... we are put here on this earth here at this time for "such a time as this." As Mordecai told Esther, which equally applies to us today to those who are silent, "do not think that you will escape." If we don't stand for these unpopular causes like life, Israel, liberty, etc., our turn will also come one day.

May the sleepers arise! Right on!

It is indeed a pivotal time in our nation's history. Justice Scalia's passing is yet another sobering reminder of the urgency of the moment. It is a truly frightening thought to think of what this could mean if he is replaced by a liberal Justice. The sight of his American flag laden casket being placed in the hurst seemed almost foretelling. America needs to wake up. The church needs to wake up. That is where the concern should start and has been very lost in large part as you said. Very sad... and even angering at times. Perhaps we don't value our freedoms enough because we have never lived without them. As they say, history repeats itself. But I hope that is not the case this time somehow. We pray for a Godly nominee this time around. Prayer is powerful and so we continue to PRAY.

Marianna, Thanks you for the comment. I cringe when I hear the attitudes that are at times behind the scenes as well as being encouraged by those who have perfect hearts towards issues that may be labeled liberal or conservative, but may be juris naturalist as I know you agree.

Those who ignore issues that God also thinks to be important? May we remember the famous poem by Niemöller, '...Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.'

Lea, thanks for your comment. I thought the same thing when I saw the flag-draped casket of Justice Scalia. I pray people will awake form their slumber...I do not understand why people seem so willfully blinded. Could it be that one reason is that they are willfully in sin and have dulled conscience? I do think the problem starts with the churches not speaking out on important issues important to God. For starters we have innocent, precious unborn being murdered til the day before birth and who in our churches are crying out about this?

Years ago, Eric Liddell refused to run in the Olympics on a Sunday and now we have churches allowing the superbowl in their churches on Sunday!

You are very correct though Lea. We can certainly PRAY and there is strength in that!

I think sometimes we that are interesting in how our country is run, and we get involved and try to support people who seek God's leading and follow the constitution are especially shocked when we realize that many who profess to be Christians either don't care, are completely unknowledgeable or they are even very deceived. We do need to start sharing the truth with others!

Yes, so true Abbi. It is truly shocking! I am amazed as well how most people don't even do their basic homework on candidates and issues.

I have found even just clipping a Cruz button on my purse or perhaps a pro-life button is a good way to start some good conversations with others. I will watch as people will notice my button.

Thanks for the comment Abbi!

Blessings!
